About The Farm

Second Frost Farm is a small diversified farm in Monroe, Maine, just 10 miles up the road from downtown Belfast. Second Frost Farm is owned and operated by Noami Brautigam (she/her) and James Gagne (he/him). 2024 will be our tenth season stewarding this hillside. We currently grow one acre of MOFGA Certified Organic field vegetables, including in four unheated high tunnels and two seasonal caterpillar tunnels so we can harvest fresh produce year-round. As we grow our business, we are committed to maintaining and enhancing the health of the land while providing nutritious food to our community.

We recognize that both our access to this farmland in Penobscot territory and our access to resources as white farmers is deeply rooted in a long history of oppression of Black and Indigenous People as well as other Communities of Color AND that it is ongoing. We continue to learn and shape our business in this context.
